Our genetics are managed under normal commercial conditions, with the only difference being that all boars and gilts are identified.

We are committed to excellence.  We have not, and will not, select breeding stock on single trait selection, but rather on balanced multiple trait selection to better enhance your production.

Not only are they raised under commercial conditions, but all have extensive records which include:

EBV's (Estimated breeding values) were developed to provide seedstock producers with a  more accurate means of predicting an animals true genetic worth.

EBV;'s take into account performance information on the individual as well as on all related animals (sire, dam, littermates, half-sibs, etc.)  By including information on relatives, the genetic merit of an individual is predicted more accurately.

For example, if a young boar has an EBV on -6.0 for days to 230 lbs., his offspring would be expected to reach market weight 3 days sooner than the offspring of an average boar from that herd when mated to the same group of females.

Spectrum's computerized EBV system, combined with real time ultrasound and visual evaluation assures you , the commercial pork producer the most advanced breeding stock available.

We have made every effort to provide the most complete and meaningful data available on all boars and gilts.  We place a lot of value in EBV's and believe in the numbers that back them up.  EBV's continue to improve our program.  In the long run, this in turn will improve your program.
